Navigating Self-discovery through Purpose

Several years ago, I left my home country with a clear goal in mind: to pursue my passion for medicine and make my family proud. Having lived with my parents, who provided a safe and nurturing environment, I felt confident that I could handle anything that came my way. Little did I know that the journey ahead would be the most challenging and revealing years of my life.

Fast forward to my first year, I was away from my family, and regardless of any circumstances, I kept repeating one phrase to myself: "You Can Do Both." This phrase to me embodies the concept of duality and can be applied to many situations. Simply, it means 'you've got this.'" During my first year away from home, I quickly realized that life was not a straightforward path. I faced many obstacles that tested my resilience, determination, and self-confidence. However, these experiences taught me valuable lessons and helped redefine my mindset. I learned that success is not just about achieving one goal but rather a continuous process of growth and self-discovery.

Through my trials and tribulations, I remained steadfast in my desire to pursue medicine. Nothing had changed except for my purpose. Previously, I lacked a sense of purpose, as I simply followed my own desires and what I believed to be right. However, it is important to recognize that one's wants may not necessarily align with one's needs, and many individuals fail to realize this, often prompting a change in path and a series of existential questions. My experiences reinforced my decision to go into medicine: my purpose had evolved. Instead of merely chasing what I wanted, I was now focused on pursuing a more meaningful purpose. Every thing I experienced at some point in life helped paint the bigger picture I am now seeing.

Although there were times when the road was rocky and uncertain, I remained confident in my ability to overcome any challenge and reminded myself "You Can Do Both". This self-confidence, even when subconscious, was the driving force that helped me stay true to my purpose.

As I continue to pursue my passion for medicine, I realize that I still have much to learn. In the mean time, I want to inspire and aspire change, show the nitty-gritty and behind the scenes of what looks like success and help promote a mindset that embraces self-discovery, allows for change, growth, and accountability within my community, especially to girls/women who can relate to certain aspects of my experiences.
